MAJOR ISSUES FACING OUR STATE

• The recently passed budget turns a $3.6 Billion deficit into a $300 surplus! 
• I STAND WITH SCOTT WALKER and LUTHER OLSEN.  I agree with Gov. Walker that the concessions asked of our public sector union friends is modest, and that these changes will help our State from keeping on a path that cannot be sustained.
• Components of the plan include pension contributions of 5.8% toward their retirements (typically now zero, or minimal), and an increase in the percentage of the health insurance paid by the employee to 12.6% (current contribution amounts, typically lower, may vary).  It also limits the components of the contract which can be collectively bargained to base wages. 
• Many see the collective bargaining concessions as harsh, but recent history shows that the unions in general have been unwilling to allow local units of government to make substantive savings through negotiations.  Streamlining the collective bargaining process may allow for faster resolutions of contracts.  I also support the option for employees to determine individually whether they choose to be a part of the union.

• Further, I believe that the 14 Democratic Senators avoiding their sworn duties is an affront to our democratic process.  There is no reasonable justification for their absence.
• Some will ask if my stance for Governor Walker means that I am "against" teachers, or other public employees.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  I have the utmost respect for teachers (I was raised by one), and those in other facets of public service.  It is simply a matter that the current path CANNOT be sustained.  Tax increases of $5 billion were implemented last session, and we're still behind.  Taxpayers that I met (including teachers, too) said that we can't just simply continue to raise taxes. 
• This Budget is balanced WITHOUT raising taxes.  Claims that it raises taxes on working families are abjectively false.  NO tax rates are increased, or fees increased as a result of this budget.  Changes to the EITC and Homestead Credit are reductions in refunds, NOT tax increases.

Vision For Wisconsin and America

It is not only our right, but our sacred duty as a nation to make our voices heard, and to implore those in power to listen, without fear of retribution.  Our leaders have a fundamental need to balance the ideas of the general public, and those most closely affected by policies and legislation.  Let us hope we will elect leaders with the wisdom to discern, and the fortitiude to act on our behalf, with courage, conviction, and character.  I envision an America and a community in which all our proud to share their gifts and talents to make our community stronger.  An America and a community in which traditional family values are held dear.  An America that stands as a strong leader for freedom in the world, and a community resolved to protect its citizenry.  An America and a community that offers unlimited opportunity for those making the effort to succeed.  An America in which we can believe, and be proud to pass on to our children.
